Abfahrt (deutsch)

Um die neuen olympischen Disziplinen, wie den Abfahrtswettbewerb, zu ermöglichen, waren weitere Baumaßnahmen am Kreuzeck notwendig. Für die Krembs- und Neunerstrecke sprengten die Organisatoren Felsen, fällten Bäume und überbrückten Wildbäche. Am Ende bestimmten die FIS und die örtlichen Verantwortlichen die Neunerstrecke, die heutige Olympia-Abfahrt, zur alleinigen Abfahrtsstrecke. Die Prüfung der mechanisch-elektrisch funktionierenden Stoppuhr ergab, dass Start- und Ankunftszeit der Abfahrtsläufer auf Fünftelsekunden genau gemessen werden konnte.

To enable the new Olympic disciplines like the downhill competition further building measures became necessary at Kreuzeck. For the “Krembs” and the “Neuner” course the organizers blasted dangerously disturbing rocks, cut trees and bridged torrents. Finally the FIS and the organizers decided that the Neuner course, todays Olympia Abfahrt, would be the only downhill course. The testing of the mechanical-electric clock proofed that start and arrival times of the athletes could be measured most precisely to 1/5 second.
